Your at-home 15-minute gua sha routine

Gua sha is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) technique that has gained popularity for its ability to relieve muscle tension, boost circulation, and improve skin tone. The technique involves using a gua sha tool to gently scrape the surface of the skin, and can be performed on the face or body.

How to use a gua sha in your skincare routine

Here's how we recommend adding a gua sha practice into your skincare routine:
At-home gua sha 5-step routine illustrationAt-home 15-minute gua sha routine:
  1. Start by washing your hands and washing your gua sha with warm soapy water
  2. Then, apply cleanser and wash your face
  3. Apply your favorite toner, serums & moisturizer
  4. Apply facial oil all over the areas you will be using the gua sha on
  5. Using gentle pressure, give yourself a massage with the gua sha
Don't forget to clean and wash your gua sha again afterwards!  There are many shapes of gua sha tools available, the most common being a slightly rounded bean shape with two curves on one end, like the one pictured above and in this Business Insider illustration.
We recommend adding this practice to your nighttime skincare routine. Think of it as one way to wind down for the night, since a gua sha practice can help you feel more relaxed and relieve stress and tension.
